In Part I of this series, we covered the many different tuxedo color options guys have for prom. But once the tuxedo itself has been decided, there still exists the questions of the accessories. Which brings us to Part II: Formal Accessory Color Options.
Once you’ve got your tuxedo picked out, and you’ve decided between long tie or bow tie and vest or cummerbund, you’re left with picking out a color and style. This formal decision is fairly unique to proms. Black tie functions will require traditional black accessories. White tie functions will require traditional white accessories. Most weddings will have a specific color theme to adhere to. But for proms, the question of color is wide open. It’s not just about adhering to a timeless dress code and becoming part of a long tradition. Proms are also about celebrating a youthful transition into adulthood and finding a way to express one’s self in a formal way. That’s why a cacophony of vibrant and fun colors is perfectly appropriate.
Now, before I go further, I should mention a caveat. If you are going with a date, chances are she’s either going to want you to go with traditional black tie attire, the specific matching accessories for a particular tuxedo, or she’s going to want you to match her dress. If any of these are the case, the color will likely be picked out for you.
For those that don’t fit into this category, whether you’re a free agent or your date wants your input on color, here are some options to consider:
