The PM Black ‘Icon’ Tuxedo is an aptly named formal staple that exemplifies formality in the truest sense.  While it’s true that we offer 110 different tuxedo styles, they are (almost) all in one way, shape, fashion, or form a variations of the classic original.  Well ladies and gents, the PM Black ‘Icon’ Tuxedo is our version of that classic original.

In keeping with the standards and philosophy of Black Tie Attire, the PM Black ‘Icon’ Tuxedo features simplicity that efficiently promotes a masculine physique.  The one button single breasted front (when buttoned over a white formal shirt) creates a stark white “V” shape.  As we’ve mentioned in previous posts, this formal “V” is incredibly important, as it implies wide shoulders, a thinner waist, and when worn with a bow tie, draws the attention to the face instead of the naval.  At 2.75 inches wide, the upward pointing peak lapels also work with the formal “V” to further accentuate broad shoulders.

Also in keeping with black tie philosophy, the design is streamlined for a sleek look with no vents and all other details minimized.  All functional elements (like the front button and besom pockets) are faced with satin to maintain the air of formality.

“Wait.  Is that it?  I thought you said this was your premier tuxedo.”

You may be thinking that there isn’t much to this design.  No frills.  No bells and whistles.  Well, you’d be just as right as you are wrong.  In truly formal settings, less is so often more, and that is the case with this timeless style.  It’s simple, concise, and dashing.  When you wear it, you’ll see that the total effect is so much greater than the sum of its parts.  In fact, this style works on so many levels that it serves as the perfect wedding tuxedo, destination wedding tuxedo, prom tuxedo, or black tie tuxedo.  The style speaks for itself, regardless of the venue.

Because of its long standing status as the Black Tie standard, we could have named this one button peak tuxedo “The Bond“, “The Godfather”, “The Sinatra”, “The Grant”, or even “The Draper” (for the ‘Mad Men‘ out there), but none of these names fully encompass what this style really is.

All of the figures listed above are icons of our culture.  All of them.  And at one point or another, they have all been seen in basically this same style of tuxedo.  That’s what this style is.  It’s universally appreciated.  It’s something for everyone.  It levels the playing field between Prince and Pauper.  It’s an Icon… and it always will be.

To give you a little more embellished look at the PM Black “Icon” Tuxedo, we took some pictures of our own, featuring some of the details that are difficult to appreciate in smaller images.
