Destination Weddings: Beachside Tuxedos & Suits

Destination Weddings: Beachside Tuxedos and SuitsThe tide comes in.  The tide goes out.  The sand sweeps down the aisle with the sea salt wind gently blowing through the bride’s bouquet, while the sun strolls slowly towards the horizon, set just behind the altar.

Yeah.  We get it, too.

Destination Weddings: Beachside Tuxedos & Suits

Just Married
Over the past decade, destination weddings have become increasingly popular and it’s easy to see why.  Who wouldn’t want to be surrounded by a tropical paradise on the happiest day of their life?  While it can be difficult for land-locked folk to get the time and expense sorted out to actually attend a nice destination wedding, the pay-off is always significant when it works.

So why, you ask, is a site dedicated to mens formal wear advocating a wedding choice that is commonly associated with “Dressing Down?”  That’s easy.  It’s because we don’t think that’s really what a destination wedding means.

Grey Suit Destination Wedding
Often destination weddings are wrongly characterized as informal, dressed down occasions.  We feel that destination weddings are better described as flexible, perfectly customizable events.  While plenty of destination weddings ARE carried out in rolled-up white linen trousers, untucked loose-fitting white shirts, and either sandals or no shoes at all, this look is far from your only option.  Certainly you can have just as traditional, posh, or formal a wedding on a beach front as you can in a church; an option that we feel carries quite a lot of merit.

Believe it or not, there are actually entire lines of suits and tuxedos made today that specifically target the destination wedding market, providing incredible formal alternatives in an outdoors tropical setting.  These styles are often lighter in shade and weight and give the wearer a very comfortable look, while careful not to sacrifice any of the dapper elegance that is synonymous with formal wear.

Black tuxedos are black because they take their cue from the traditional surroundings of evening wear.  Evenings are dark, so evening wear is dark, too.  The same concept applies for destination wedding wear.  Some of the most popular formal choices for these occasions are tuxedos and suits that come in varying shades of tan, taking a cue from the neutral sand tones that are so closely associated with the tropics.  This is especially evident in the aptly named After Six Sand ‘Riviera’ Destination Suit.  Tan tuxedos and suits strike the perfect balance between formal and relaxed.

Navy blue tuxedos and suits are also a popular color choice.  The dark blue picks up the blue shades of the surrounding water and sky, while the dark hue creates an elegant contrast.  There are also several popular options that come in varying shades of grey.  While grey tuxedos and suits don’t necessarily mimic the surrounding colors of a tropical destination, they correspond very well with them, creating a chic and almost intangible aesthetic.

This is just the tip of the iceberg, but already you can see that there are MANY options to choose from that are designed specifically for destination weddings.  Still, that doesn’t mean you can’t have a traditional formal wedding on a beach front.  You can!  If a black tuxedo and bow tie is what you’re after, that’s a perfectly appropriate option to pursue.  Arguably, you’re not going to find a man more debonair than one strolling near a beach in black tie attire.

In Conclusion:

This is your day, and with a tropical backdrop to play with, you should make the most of it.  Happy Jump: Destination WeddingIt’s true that most women imagine their wedding day at the ripe old age of 5 (give or take a year,) and when they do, tuxedos and elegance are usually a part of it.  Just because you’re putting the wedding on a beach doesn’t mean you have to give up the dress code she’s been picturing since pre-school.

The beauty of a destination wedding, besides the destination of course, is that you have the flexibility to make the day perfect for you, and whatever that entails is fair game.  So take your time, be yourself, smell the air, suit up, and get ready for an incredible day!  You’ll soon see that some of the very best journeys in life start with the destination.
