What’s Black and White and Grey all over (also with a little tan and camouflage sprinkled in?)  April’s Top Ten List!

For most vendors of men’s rental formal wear, prom season is the busiest season of the year.  And while proms all over the country take place from March through June, Most proms happen in April.  That makes April’s Top Ten Chart arguably the most relevant all year!

Leading the way with 4 spots on the Top Ten Chart (including the top spot) were Grey Tuxedos.  That’s down from 5 spots last month, but not because they were less popular in April.  It’s just that other styles and colors became more popular.  There are a couple of interesting notes here, though.  For the first time in recent months, all of the grey styles on the Top Ten Chart  were tuxedos and not suits.  Usually there is at least one suit among them.  That indicates that proms are becoming more formal.  Also, 3 out of 4 of those styles are Heather Grey Tuxedos, including the top spot.  Historically Steel Grey Tuxedos have been slightly more popular, but it looks like that trend is changing.

Next up on the Top Ten Chart are the Classic Black Tuxedos, taking up three of the remaining six slots. While proms are stylistically very versatile, Classic black tuxedos will always be the backbone of this industry, and will remain a strong renters through prom season.  The most popular is the Black ‘Chaplin I’ Tuxedo by After Six, a 1 button notch tuxedo followed by The Black ‘Icon’ Tuxedo by PM, a 1 button peak tuxedo and then The Black ‘Parker’ Slim Fit Tuxedo by Ike Behar, a 2 button notch tuxedo.  All 3 are classic options and we expect them to stay strong renters until hot weather renders them too warm to wear comfortably.

It’s typical for both grey tuxedos and black tuxedos to do very well on the Top Ten Charts.  Some months are comprised entirely of these two color families.  But prom season always stirs things up a bit and other colors and styles typically become very popular as well.  That’s why the remaining three spots on April’s Top Ten Chart go to (in order) The Camouflage ‘Alpine’ Tuxedo by Bright Colored Tuxedos in the 5th position, The White ‘Mystique’ Tuxedo by Jean Yves, and last but not least the Tan ‘Allure Men’ Tuxedo by Jean Yves.  While Tan Tuxedos and Suits are common on the top ten chart, Camouflage and White Tuxedos are less common.  Though in the context of prom season, a season that is identified as formal but flexible, a little variety is expected and represents the eclectic gathering that proms so often are.
