In July we saw June’s trends continue to build, with some small but significant developments!

Grey tuxedos and suits continue to dominate the Top Ten Chart, claiming 7 out of the possible 10 positions.  And as I’ve always said, 7 out of 10 ain’t bad.  Grey tuxedos and suits are so versatile, spanning both climate and venue, that they will stay popular all year long.  But because classic black tuxedos can’t compete in this climate, and the popularity of brown tuxedos are waning, these summer months are likely going to be, on a percentage basis, the most popular time of year for grey tuxedos and suits.

Tan suits are also incredibly popular this time of year for both destination weddings and garden weddings!  While these styles may have some appeal at other times of the year, the warm months will be far and away their most popular seasons.

The popularity of white tuxedos generally peaks around prom season, but the White ‘Mystique’ Tuxedo by Jean Yves is just a little more determined than the other styles in its category.  The ‘Mystique’ clearly knows that Labor Day is soon approaching and with it, the societal moray that it is uncouth to wear White after.  Determined to have its day in the sun, the White ‘Mystique’ has edged it’s way onto the Top Ten Chart, holding firmly to the 8th position.

But possibly the most notable change in July is the fact that not one classic black tuxedo appears on the list.  Not one.  Just last month, we were talking about how the summer heat had relegated the number of classic black styles to only one.  But this month we see that trend continuing.  As the heat continues its relentless pursuit, black tuxedos lose popularity.

In the coming fall months, we expect a resurgence of classic black options, as well as brown tuxedos.  While this will cut into grey’s popularity, we expect grey tuxedos and suits to stay strong renters in the months leading up to the end of the year.
