As the summer heat of July continues, so do the summer formal trends we’ve been seeing for a couple of months.
Once again, Grey Tuxedos and Suits dominate the Top Ten Chart in May, claiming 8 out of 10 spots. This is the same 80% that grey tuxedos and suits claimed in May and June. Also notable is the tuxedo in the top spot. Over the last year, the Steel Grey ‘Twilight’ Tuxedo by Jean Yves has been in the #1 spot 11 out of 12 months. The month that it wasn’t, it was still in the #2 spot. So while grey tuxedos and suits are versatile enough to stay popular all year, the Steel Grey ‘Twilight’ Tuxedo is almost certainly going to be among the most popular styles all year long.
Tan Tuxedos and Suits represent the remainder of the chart, claiming the same 20% of the chart they claimed in May and last June. Tan tuxedos and suits are incredibly popular this time of year for destination weddings. The color matches the sandy tones that destination weddings are known for and also look great with the earth tones of a daytime garden wedding.
Another notable thing about this month’s top ten list is that every style that was on the list in June is on the list again in July. The only difference is that some of the styles changed order. This again indicates that grey and tan tuxedos and suits hold a monopoly over the top 10 list through the hotter months.
With 8 Grey tuxedos and suit, and 2 Tan tuxedos and suits, there’s no room left for any classic black tuxedos. It’s important to note that this doesn’t mean that black tuxedos aren’t worn this time of year. They are, and quite a few. But as a trend, they just aren’t nearly as popular as grey or tan when you factor in the summer heat. While it’s possible a black tuxedo or two may show up on the top ten charts this summer, we don’t expect to see any until the weather cools a bit.
