The Met Gala
The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Exhibit, aka the Met Gala, is the fashion industry’s biggest night and draws the biggest celebrities in both the fashion and entertainment world. Every year, the invite goes out with not only a call for formal dress, but also a specific dress theme. This year’s theme, “China: Through the Looking Glass” was among the most talked about themes in recent history and resulted in one of the most lavish spectacles in the event’s history.
The tuxedos of the 2015 Met Gala were varied, but almost all were very nicely put together. Most men opted for very traditional formal wear, since one of the guiding formal principals for men is to stay understated and let the woman you’re with be the center focus. Some men took traditional black tie and found ways to modernize it – fitting for a fashion event. Other men really took the theme to heart and found ways to reconcile both formal dress, the event’s theme, while staying true to their own personal brand. Below are a few of the best examples from each formal trend we noticed.
